What We Do
01.
— We Find & Fund
We identify community needs and mobilize resources through strategic partnerships with national and international donors to design and implement effective humanitarian and development programs.
Since its establishment, JCO has built strong working relationships with a range of donors, including DANIDA, UNDP, Search for Common Ground, CISU-DAC, DERF, and Afghanaid. Through these partnerships, JCO has successfully reached the most vulnerable populations in remote and hard-to-reach areas of Ghor, Badghis, and Herat provinces, delivering integrated Emergency Response, WASH, Health, Education, and Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) interventions.
02.
— We Build Networks
We collaborate with local organizations, government institutions, UN agencies, cluster coordination mechanisms, and community leaders to strengthen coordination and promote inclusive and sustainable development across Afghanistan, with a particular focus on our areas of operation.
JCO has established strong networks with targeted communities as primary rights-holders of our programs, as well as with key partners and donors including DANIDA, UNDP, Search for Common Ground, CISU-DAC, DERF, and Afghanaid. These partnerships enable us to mobilize resources effectively and expand funding opportunities to reach the most vulnerable and underserved populations in Ghor, Badghis, and Herat provinces.
03.
— We Strengthen
We empower communities by strengthening their capacities in livelihoods, agriculture, water management, and essential social services, enabling long-term resilience and self-reliance.
JCO has implemented multiple grants funded by national and international donors to deliver integrated WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Health, Education, and Emergency Response interventions. Through these programs, JCO has reached 7,130 direct beneficiaries (1,545 men, 1,790 women, and 3,795 children) in Ghor, Badghis, and Herat provinces.
Key achievements include:
Health and Education services delivered in multiple phases with USD 72,000 funding from DANIDA.
Livelihoods and agriculture support to 300 households, including greenhouse distribution, vegetable seeds, and capacity-building activities, funded by UNDP (USD 50,000) from April 2023 to May 2024.
Organizational capacity strengthening, with six JCO staff trained in QuickBooks and procurement systems through Search for Common Ground support.
Education and youth development initiatives, enhancing English language and computer skills for 60 students, alongside practical and theoretical football training, funded by CISU-DAC (USD 17,076).
Emergency response interventions for flood-affected communities in Ghor province, providing unconditional cash assistance to 65 households with USD 25,494 funding (June–September 2024).
Earthquake response in Herat province, delivering cash-for-food assistance to 300 households with USD 70,516 funding from DERF (November 2023–March 2024).
Through these interventions, JCO continues to strengthen community resilience, promote self-reliance, and ensure that vulnerable populations have equitable access to essential services.
04.
— We Educate
We promote equitable access to quality education for children and adults, with a focus on literacy, vocational skills development, and community awareness to help build brighter and more resilient futures.
To advance this goal, JCO has implemented multiple DANIDA-funded interventions in the education and health sectors, reaching 7,130 individuals (1,545 men, 1,790 women, and 3,795 children). These initiatives included the provision of essential educational materials and school furniture (desks, chairs, blackboards, and stationery), as well as the distribution of medical equipment and assistive devices, including wheelchairs and walkers, to persons with disabilities.
Through these integrated education and health interventions, JCO contributes to inclusive learning environments, improved well-being, and enhanced opportunities for vulnerable communities.
05.
— We Provide Care
We deliver life-saving assistance across the Health, Nutrition, and WASH sectors, ensuring that vulnerable families have reliable access to essential health services, safe drinking water, and improved hygiene practices.
Through integrated health, education, and WASH interventions, JCO has supported 7,130 individuals—including 1,545 men, 1,790 women, and 3,795 children—helping to improve health outcomes and reduce vulnerability among at-risk communities.
06.
— We Consult
We provide technical, programmatic, and strategic advisory support to partners and stakeholders throughout the project cycle—from needs assessments and project design to implementation, monitoring, and learning—ensuring interventions are context-responsive, inclusive, and impact-driven.
Drawing on JCO’s extensive field presence and operational experience in Ghor, Badghis, and Herat provinces, we support national and international partners, UN agencies, and donors with community-based assessments, localization approaches, stakeholder engagement, and coordination with cluster mechanisms. Our consultative services are grounded in direct engagement with communities as primary rights-holders and informed by hands-on implementation across Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, and Emergency Response programs.
Through strong donor and partner relationships—including DANIDA, UNDP, Search for Common Ground, CISU-DAC, DERF, and Afghanaid—JCO contributes practical insights, operational guidance, and risk-informed solutions that enhance program quality, accountability, and sustainability, while ensuring assistance effectively reaches the most vulnerable populations.
Impact Stories
A Beneficiary Overcoming Hardship with JCO’s Support
In Ghor province, one of our beneficiaries faced severe food shortages and lacked access to safe water. Through JCO’s Food Security and WaSH programs, they received agricultural support, clean water, and hygiene education. Today, their family is healthier, their crops flourish, and they have hope for the future. JCO empowers families like this to not just survive—but thrive—turning challenges into lasting change.
Thriving Amid Climate Challenges
In Ghor province, many families face unpredictable weather and harsh climate conditions that threaten their crops and livelihoods. One of our beneficiaries, who prefers to remain anonymous, struggled to grow enough food to sustain their family. Through JCO’s climate-resilient agriculture programs, they received greenhouse kits, improved seeds, and farming guidance to adapt to these challenges.
Today, their crops are thriving despite the changing climate, providing reliable food for the family and surplus to sell. With JCO’s support, families like this are building resilience, securing their livelihoods, and creating hope for a sustainable future.
